Through a variety of awards, GSHP honors excellence in clinical practice, leadership, education, research, and service to both the profession and the community.

These awards highlight the dedication, innovation, and impact of individuals who go above and beyond in their roles and help shape the future of pharmacy. These awards are distributed during the GSHP Summer Meeting.

Award Descriptions

Pharmacist of the Year Award

The GSHP Pharmacist of the Year Award is the highest honor GSHP can bestow on a member. It is presented to a Georgia health-system pharmacist in recognition of outstanding service and accomplishments in pharmacy practice, as well as active participation in GSHP. All GSHP members are eligible for nomination. Nominations should include detailed information regarding professional, civic, and organizational involvement. Recipients serve on the Awards Committee for five years following recognition and must remain active GSHP members.

25-Year Practitioner Award

This award recognizes GSHP members who have actively practiced hospital or health-system pharmacy for 25 years or more. Members may nominate peers or self-nominate if they have not previously received the award.

Outstanding Practitioner Award

Presented to a pharmacist in a direct patient care, non-administrative role, this award recognizes excellence in service to patients, the profession, and their health system. Nominees should have at least five years of professional experience.

Outstanding Preceptor Award

This award honors pharmacists who demonstrate excellence in precepting pharmacy students and residents, recognizing their critical role in developing the next generation of professionals.

Outstanding Pharmacy Professional Representative Award

Presented to a pharmaceutical manufacturer or wholesaler representative who has made meaningful contributions to health-system pharmacy through service, engagement, and support of GSHP and its members.

Outstanding Pharmacy Technician Award

Recognizes a health-system pharmacy technician who demonstrates excellence in practice and leadership in supporting pharmaceutical care.

Outstanding Community Volunteer Service Award

This award honors a GSHP member who has made significant contributions to their community through volunteer service. Contributions may include both healthcare-related and non-healthcare-related activities that improve quality of life.

Outstanding Pharmacy Student Award

Recognizes student pharmacists who demonstrate excellence in service, leadership, and professional development. Nominations may be submitted by preceptors, educators, or GSHP members familiar with the student’s contributions.

Outstanding New Practitioner Award

This award recognizes pharmacists within the first five years of practice who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and contributions to health-system pharmacy.

Outstanding Pharmaceutical Publication Award

Presented to GSHP members who have contributed to the advancement of pharmacy through publication. Eligible works may include clinical research, new service models, or economic analyses, and are reviewed over a defined 12-month period.

Outstanding Pharmacy Mentor Award

Recognizes GSHP members who have demonstrated excellence in mentorship through the GSHP mentorship program, supporting the growth and development of future pharmacy professionals.

Fellowship of GSHP (FGSHP)

Fellowship in GSHP is a prestigious, lifelong recognition awarded to members who have demonstrated sustained excellence and significant contributions to both the Society and the profession of health-system pharmacy. Fellowship status is maintained through active membership. Fellowship of GSHP

Pharmacy Stars Shining Star Compounding Technician Award

This award honors a pharmacy technician who demonstrates exceptional skill, leadership, and commitment in sterile compounding. Recipients exhibit strong knowledge of regulatory standards, maintain high levels of accuracy and safety, and actively contribute to training and process improvement within their organization.
